A Night on the Town

It takes a mother-in-law with foresight and creativity to give a Christmas gift that combines an idea from this post with the fact that she would be here this month. The gift? A gift certificate to The Melting Pot and babysitting so a new mom and dad could step out for an evening.

The new mom was a little apprehensive about leaving her young offspring, but with a little hand holding by the new dad, she was able to entrust her own mother with the care of her daughter and enjoy a night out. Dad had the brilliant idea (he's so humble) to use a gift from a friend so that the mother-in-law would know what to do in any circumstance. After bidding the generations above and below them farewell, the new parents headed out to a nice dinner of excessive caloric intake in the form of fondue.

The waiter, Matt, was nice, not too intrusive, and kept the food coming at a good pace. Dinner was the cheddar cheese fondue, California Salad, coq au vin cooking style, and milk chocolate for dessert. Dinner conversation ranged from career to school to friends to baby and babies to parents and even to a little bit of silence. After two hours of eating, the parents came home to find a newborn who had just woken up (the ideal babysitting gig) and a mother-in-law who had enjoyed every minute of holding the beautiful, sleeping baby.
