Lost Recap: Greatest Hits

1. Net Character Growth: +2. Rose and Bernard are back. Acceptable growth.
2. A new station. Looking Glass. Now on to Charles Lutwidge Dodgson?
3. Charlie as every Biblical allusion: the self-sacrificing Christ figure, passing the Abraham/Isaac test, as Jacob receiving Esau's birthright ring, as the good Samaritan saving Nadia.

Lost Recap: The Man Behind the Curtain

1. Net Character Growth: +1. Jacob*. Also, McPatchy didn't resurrect. Best news ever. Now I don't have to worry about Poochies coming back to life.
2. Locke plays mind games with Ben. Well done.
3. Richard: does he wear eye liner? His eyes bother me. And either the islanders don't age or the make up artists stink.

* I'm not nearly as familiar with L. Frank Baum as I need to be.

Lost Recap: The Brig (Updated)

1. Net Character Growth: -1. Sawyer's namesake is dead. He better not pull a McPatchy and come back to life.
2. "That's why you're going to have to kill your father." What? Lame.
3. 10:20p - I don't think I mind Jack being relegated to minor character status. I'm a little over him. 10:49p - Add in the whole "we can't tell her..." thing and I'm totally done with him.

Update: I've noticed that each time a character dies - McPatchy, New Boy, New Girl, Sawyer's namesake - I follow up with a comment about hoping the character doesn't come back to life. Is it too cheap a religious reference, to go along with the millions of other religious references in the show? Does it all come back to Net Character Growth? I'd love your thoughts. Lost Recap: Catch-22

3. At the end of season two when we saw the two men playing chess some people kept saying the chess players were speaking Russian. I said they were speaking Portuguese. Just looked on Lostpedia and saw that the Joseph Heller novel found last night was in Portuguese. Which makes #1 on this list all the more correct. I rock.

Watched Wednesday's "Lost" tonight. Was so right with last week's episode and the mind game. Here is this week's list:

1. Net Character Growth: 0. Random associated comment: Benry's round glasses work the retro feel.
2. The sub is sooooooo fake (Sequel comment to Claire's wig). Can also be said: There is no sub.
3. Juliet standing up to Sawyer and Sayid: H. O. T. I sense myself falling.

Lost Recap: Left Behind

1. Net Character Growth: 0. Nice use of Sawyer's Baby Momma in the Kate flashback.
2. My Fair Sawyer with Professor Hugo Higgins. "Guess I'm not getting the Korean vote."
3. Juliet & Kate match up. Physically and mentally. (I'm not buying that they really left Juliet behind. Has got to be a Benry mind game.)

Catching Up on Lost -OR- How I ate half a roll of Thin Mints

I haven't been watching "Lost" live for about a month now. It's on a little bit late, 10pm, and I knew I could see it out on abc.com whenever I wanted. In an effort to get current, I caught up through last week's episode last Wednesday and tonight, which only leaves me this week's episode to watch before next Wednesday. I think that's do-able.

The player on abc.com is amazing (click pic to the right to see full size). Each episode is aired with three 30-second commercials, which you can watch all up front so your viewing experience is an uninterrupted one. Also, you get the letterbox version, the one they show on HD TV, and you can watch it in fullscreen mode. Even in fullscreen mode I've found that video quality to be very impressive. I almost like watching it more on my computer than on my TV.

After watching 3/7/2007's episode, Enter 77, I came up with a list of three things that I liked about the episode. They are:

1. Net Character Growth: 0. Even though McPatchy introduced, Klugh shot. I never liked her.
2. Decent Sayid back story.
3. Sawyer's "Who the hell are you?" line to the new girl. I so hate new girl and new boy.

I so enjoyed my list that I decided I would create a list to summarize my weekly Lost experience in three points. (Atil would be proud.) Here are the lists for the other episodes I caught up on:

1. Net Character Growth: -1. McPathcy = no more. Very pleased. And having your head baked was tres cool.
2. Claire and Jack as siblings. Eh. People guessed that a long time ago.
3. Claire's wig. Bad bad bad. Terrible.

The Man from Tallahassee (3/21/2007)
1. Net Character Growth: 0. At least no one new.
2. Benry is amazing actor. Julliet still seems stale.
3. Sayid telling Alex about her mother. He still has a pair.

Expose (3/28/07)
1. Net Character Growth: -2. Could you make me any happier?
2. Charlie comes clean. Was that really necessary?
3. Unless the "-2" are going to rise from the grave. That would be VERY bad.

I'm also reading the weekly analysis on the Celebritology blog. I don't know Liz very well, but talk to Jen all the time and think quite highly of her. They have fun theories and link to interesting sites. It's sort of like doing Lost analysis light. They hit the major themes without going too crazy. Jen is on the religious overtones bandwagon, on which I am firmly riding, and pulls out some good references.
